Barcelona And Spain Legend Xavi Emerges As Shock Supporter Of… Sheffield United

Former Barcelona and Spain midfielder Xavi has made stunning revelations that he is a keen admirer of Yorkshire’s League One outfit Sheffield United.

Xavi, now playing his football in Qatar with Al Sadd, made well over 700 first team appearances for La Liga giants Barcelona claiming eight league titles and no fewer than four Champions League winning medals.

‘So what, I love Sheffield United…’

But as the Spanish legend starts to wind down his glittering career in the Qatar heat, the 35-year-old has a little more time on his hands to enjoy different levels of football that he may not have been able to view in previous years… like the lower leagues of English football, for example.

‘I follow Middlesbrough because Aitor Karanka is there,’ he said.

‘I met a boy the other day. English. He was wearing a Barca shirt but I asked him who he supported. He said: ‘Sheffield United’. I know them, they have 20,000 fans in the third division. That’s incredible. You get that in England.
‘I watched some of a game with Charlton the other day. There was football on television, yet the stadium was packed with supporters. Incredible.’

So there you have it Blades fans, Xavi watches Sheffield United. Weird.
