Model Gemma Ward On Fame, Fear And Why She Lied About Her Identity

AT the height of her modelling career, enigmatic beauty Gemma Ward was conservative with the truth about her identity when approached by fans on the street.

The notoriously shy model turned actor told followers she was Ward’s cousin in a bid to fly under the radar.

“I’d say that it definitely wasn’t me,” Ward told Vogue Australia.

“I feel really bad about that now. If they’re out there, I’m sorry,” she added with a laugh.

It wasn’t just her desire to remain unknown which prompted her to lie, she was afraid she wouldn’t live up to the expectations of her fans.

“I might still have a bad morning and claim to be my cousin,” she said. “But I am definitely much more accepting of myself and that is why I’m not hiding as much.”
