Manchester United Defender Chris Smalling Reveals All About His New Nickname ‘Mike’

After two blunders by manager Louis van Gaal, Chris Smalling has accepted that the Manchester United fans will be calling him ‘Mike’ for the foreseeable.

United fans have displayed their brilliant sense of humour after Van Gaal accidentally referred to his defender as Mike not once, but TWICE in press conferences.

‘The first captain is Wayne Rooney, the second captain is Michael Carrick and last year the third captain was Mr Mike Smalling, sorry, Chris!’ the Dutchman said in July.

And it was only last month that Smalling revealed that all the supporters still refer to him as Mike whenever they squad are on their travels: ‘You go to Russia or wherever and it’s Mike, Mike, Mike. It’s going to stick with me forever, that one!’ he said.

If Chris Mike Smalling had any hope of shaking the unfortunate nickname off anytime soon then Louis van Gaal saw to that by again calling him ‘Micheal Smalling’ after their Champions League clash with CSKA:
