All choirs have been drawn from parishes within Kampala Archdiocese, the ecclesiastic province in which the Pope will be hosted.

Each choir will be required to send 30 of its members, Lugazi-Mukono Diocese Bishop Christopher Kakooza, who is in charge of Liturgy for the Papal visit, said in various letters to parish priests of the selected choirs. Those selected include St Agnes, Kibuye-Makindye Parish, Mbuya Parish, Lugazi Cathedral choir, Kamwokya Parish and the Catholic Centenary Memorial Choir from Christ the King Parish.

The secretary general of the Uganda Episcopal Conference, Msgr J.B Kauta, said he was not in position to comment on the progress of the different preparations until the Vatican confirms the official programme of the Pope's visit in Uganda.

He, however, said the church will soon make all details public.

Daily Monitor, however, understands, starting next month, all the choirs will resume vigorous trainings at Christ the King Church in Kampala.

The 150-man choir is expected to sing during the public mass the Pope will celebrate at Namugongo Catholic Martyrs Shrine on November 28.

The Vatican last week confirmed that Pope Francis will visit Uganda from November 27 to 29 during his six-day first Africa trip. The Catholic Church is heading the preparations while government is only offering a support role.

Overall preparations for the papal visit are headed by Gulu Archbishop John Baptist Odama, also the chairman of the Uganda Episcopal Conference.

The Episcopal Conference is the church's in-country apex assembly where top leaders meet to discuss and take collective decisions to advance and coordinate the social and pastoral duties.

Archbishop of Kampala Diocese Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, in whose ecclesiastical province the Pope will be hosted, and also oversees all preparations, on Sunday released the initial Pope Voyage programme.

On arrival, the Pope will meet President Museveni at Entebbe State House - at a meeting only the Papal Nuncio Archbishop Micheal Blume, Gulu Archbishop Odama and Dr Lwanga will be allowed to attend.

The Pope will then be driven to Kampala, through Entebbe Road where he will wave to the crowds. He will visit Munyonyo and then meet the youth at Kololo. It is understood, 10,000 youth will be accredited.

The next day, the Pope is expected to lead mass at Namugongo shrines, but will pass by the Protestant's shrine on his way to the Catholic Basilica.

The Pope will retire for lunch, meet the catechists and later meet bishops at Rubaga cathedral.

He will then visit the Catholic Church-run Bakateyamba home in Nalukolongo, a city suburb, and have a meal with the homeless as his last official programme in Uganda, en-route to Central African Republic.
