One of the greatest ambitions of any youth is to be heard on radio. Musicians like  Tocky Vibes expect to be paid for their musical talents. Property for the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC)'s Montrose studios was attached and taken for auctioning by The messenger of court.
The fate of Zimbabwean musicians such as Tocky Vibes is at stake as the broadcaster may in the future be unable to pay royalties.

The cash strapped state owned radio station is said to owe Bulawayo City Council unpaid rates. The City Council was recently granted a writ of execution to attach the property to recover more than $300,000 to the local authority by the cash strapped state broadcaster in unpaid rates.

ZBC sources at Montrose, said  some of the property which was taken includes a staff bus and a set of black leather sofas.

"The reception room at Montrose is now empty because sofas and the coffee table were taken by the messenger of court for auctioning.

The staff bus was also taken. ZBC has not been paying service utilities such as rates and electricity for a long time," said a staff member at the studios who refused to be named for fear of victimisation.

Sources who witnessed the incident said one of the senior managers pleaded in vain with the assistant deputy sheriff to spare the property.

Last year, in September, the High Court also granted the Harare city council a writ of execution to attach the broadcaster's property to recover more than $300 000 which ZBC owes the local authority.

ZBC is reeling under serious financial challenges that have seen staff struggling to get their salaries on time, while some executives were fired last week for corruption.
