Rajaram, warmly known as ‘Bhapkar Guruji’, he is a simple man who has made a lasting contribution to his community. His quest to build roads started back when he was teaching; he asked the local government authorities to build a road cutting across the 700 metre high Santosha Hill, but sadly his request went unanswered. So he did it himself.

“At the time of Independence, there was not even a ‘paywat’ (walking trail) connecting Gundegaon to adjoining village,” Bhapkar recalls.
After Bhapkar’s 57-year effort however, Gundegaon is now connected with nearby villages through a network of seven roads, altogether 40km long. Others helped during the road building process of course, with the generous Bhapkar often having to pay them from his own pocket.
“I used to spend half my salary on their wages. Not a single rupee from the government has been spent on the road work,” he adds.

Since he retired, Bhapkar has also spent his entire earnings and pensions to help fund the road work. A lifetime of graft behind him, here is a mystery man that his literally moved mountains to help the locals he lives with. Now that’s a proper hero.
Be a hero in your own community and start impacting the world.
